H.R. Giger, 05.02.1940 – 12.05.2014

H.R. Giger was a person that found his thing, and did it well. Much like many if his colleagues of their golden era, Giger is an example of person going beyond what was thought to be the limits and becoming a master craftsman. While his works still are not necessarily for everybody, nobody can deny their uniqueness and certain dangerous allure they have. The biomechanical take he crafted seemed so natural, but at the same time forbidden and foreign. The use of sexual imaginary can’t be underestimated, and Giger’s works are full of erotic elements.

The style of Giger’s works became part of general culture at large with Alien, and has been imitated since in various other works. R-Type is a very clean example of how strongly Giger affected visuals and overall design of a product. Too bad IREM never actually hired Giger to design any of their Bydo monstrosities. Giger directly worked on PC game Dark Seed, and it shows.

It is hard to imagine the world without H.R. Giger. He brought something dark from the human soul and flesh, and combined it with your most deepest and darkest fantasies. A man was a visionary, and a damn good one at that. He is one of the best examples of people aiming for something new, and making it happen.

This glass of whisky is dedicated for you, Giger. Cheers.
